The Fall of the House of Usher
Illustration & Storytelling

The Fall of the House of Usher is a hand-painted watercolor storybook adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe’s classic novel, blending illustration and book design to enhance the eerie atmosphere.
Classic literature is filled with atmosphere and deep emotion, but some of its impact can feel distant to modern readers without visuals. To bridge this gap, I created an illustrated adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe’s The Fall of the House of Usher, using hand-painted watercolor illustrations to bring its eerie and mysterious mood to life. My goal was to capture the novel’s unsettling atmosphere in a way that enhances the storytelling experience for contemporary audiences.
I was responsible for the entire visual storytelling process, from illustrating each scene in watercolor to designing the page layouts and integrating typography with imagery. Using Photoshop, I refined the artwork and arranged the text to ensure a smooth visual flow that complemented the story’s pacing and tension.
The final result is a visually immersive storybook that blends narrative illustration with book design, making classic literature more engaging through a carefully crafted visual identity. This project deepened my understanding of how illustration can serve as a tool for brand storytelling, demonstrating how visual elements shape mood, narrative, and reader engagement. This approach extends beyond books into editorial design and branding.
